Boys Soccer Team WINS Regional Championship!

The boys soccer team earned its first IHSAA Regional Title this past Saturday with a 5-1 win against Centerville High School.  The Eagles started the game strongly as Graham Allgood scored a minute into the game.  Willie Nguyen put the team up 2-0 with a goal that deflected off of a Centerville defender.  Centerville was able to get on the scoreboard with a goal to make things interesting to close out the first half.  The boys were aggressive to start the second half, and Luke Peduto extended the lead with a beautiful left footed goal.  Goals by Anders Rotto and Sam Hall put the game out of reach.

With the win, the boys extended their record to 10-7-2.  The Eagles will play this Saturday, October 22 in the Semi-State match in Evansville and will take on 16th ranked Lawrenceburg in the first game.  Game time is noon central time.

Dental Works Offers FREE Custom Mouth Guards to Heritage

Dental Works, located in the Sears store at Castleton Square Mall, has agreed to offer FREE athletic custom mouth guards to all HCS athletes.  It’s simple!  All you need to do is call for an appointment (578-0460), arrive with your student, sign a parent consent and have the custom impressions made.

The advantage of a custom fit mouth guard as compared to a store bought version is huge and will provide more comfort and safety for your athlete.  Unfortunately, the custom mouth guard is not available for those athletes currently in orthodontics, due to the constant movement of the teeth.  However, a standard guard is available for free in a variety of colors (including Heritage blue).  The professional staff at Dental Works is dedicated to serving your family’s health needs and our community.  Call for your FREE custom mouth guard today.

Welcome Ashley Fairweather - New Women's Lacrosse Head Coach

We are pleased to announce the appointing of Ashley Fairweather as our Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach.  Transitioning this role has been part of the long-time vision for the program and we are excited to make a shift at this time.

Coach Ashley Fairweather loves the Lord and brings excitement for loving and serving the young women who will be a part of Heritage Christian School’s Lacrosse team.  Coach Fairweather also brings a wealth of lacrosse knowledge and experience through her playing career at Duke and coaching at the College of William and Mary.

We are blessed to welcome one who knows the program well, having been an assistant to Coach Christopher Teeter for the 2011 season.  Coach Fairweather also takes this position with the full support of her husband, Jim Fairweather who led the Heritage Men’s Lacrosse team as Head Coach in 2008.

“I am thrilled at the opportunity to help lead this group of young women,” Fairweather said.  “My Heritage Lacrosse experience over the past season reinforced why we play and coach the game. Of course, it is fun to score goals, make tough defensive stops, and to win games.  But at the end of a hard training day, we remember that we choose to be a part of this Heritage Lacrosse family because of the lasting relationships built and the opportunity to work alongside each other, sharpening one another, taking lessons learned on the lacrosse field into our every day lives.”

A special thanks to Christopher Teeter and Tom Flynn.  They have been intricately involved in the start and incredible growth of the Heritage lacrosse program to this point.  They have been instrumental in helping to make this transition possible and have done an extraordinary job providing leadership to the program.   In addition, Tom Bergman has given of his talents for the past 3 seasons as an Assistant Coach on the Eagles staff.  Paige Burton also served during the memorable 2011 season as an Assistant Coach, making an especially great impact on the JV squad.

Thanks goes out to Lois Teeter and Karen Pok as well, for all of their efforts behind the scenes to keep the program heading in a forward direction both organizationally and spiritually.

The great encouragement by those who have previously poured into this lacrosse program and the lives who have taken part is a testament to the foundation laid as we move forward in a new direction lead by Coach Fairweather.  Please join us in supporting our new Head Coach and the entire Eagles Women’s Lacrosse program throughout this coming school year.

The Heritage Boys Track & Field team competed in the Sectional meet last night at North Central where they placed 8th with 21.5 points.  Nathan Hadley turned in an All-Sectional performance in the 1600m run as he placed 3rd, lowering his own school record to 4:24.56, and advancing to Regionals.

There were a number of 5th place finishes on the night, with athletes just missing advancement to Regionals:

Girls Track Team Turns Out Great Performances at City Track Meet

The Girls Track team turned out great performances at the City Tournament this week resulting in two All-City Relays and two All-City Individual honors.  The Girls' 4 x 800m relay of Laura Cunningham, Kathryn Gerig, Rachel VanTries, and Kate Testerman got things started by finishing 2nd and earning All-City Honors - just 1 second off the school record.   Individually, Rebecca Reutman ran well to finish runner-up in the 200m dash for the 2nd straight year and Elissa Zachmann ran a great race in the 400m to place 3rd and break the 60 second barrier for the first time.  Zachmann's time of 59.21 seconds currently ranks her 16th in the State!  Reutman and Zachmann came back to team up with Testerman and Cunningham to place 3rd and pick up another All-City Recognition in the 4 x 400m Relay.
Especially notable is the fact that Rebecca Reutman will finish her Heritage Track and Field career with 6 All-City honors to her name, making her one of the most decorated Girl's Track and Field athletes in school history.  CONGRATULATIONS Lady Eagles!

Boys Track & Field Team Produces 3 City Champions and Earn City Runner-Up Trophy

The Boys' Track & Field Team competed with incredible effort and spirit at the 2011 City Tournament and brought home the City Runner-up Trophy for the 3rd straight year.  The seniors stepped up in a huge way to score an upset finish, just outdistancing powerhouse program Cathedral and the defending champion Arsenal Tech to finish 2nd to a very strong Bishop Chatard squad.  Once again, we were underdogs coming in, probably about the 4th or 5th best team on paper, but the guys did a wonderful job of stepping up to the level of competition and producing courageous performances when it mattered most.   Highlights include:

Nathan Hadley = 2x City Champion / 3 All-City Honors =21.5 Points Total
1600m: 1st in 4:26 = NEW SCHOOL RECORD - 4:26, breaking the 26 year-old record held by JP Dawes
800m: 1st in 2:03 (came from behind over the last 200m to win easily)
4 x 400m Relay Anchor: 3rd place = All-City (53.8 split)

Andrew Brunett = City Champion in the Shot Put (48' 8")

Brendon Burke = City Champion in the Pole Vault (11' 0")
4 x 400m Relay: 3rd place = All-City (51.8 split)

Jack Morgan = City Runner-up in the 800m / All-City 4 x 400
800: 2nd place in 2:04 (moved up from 5th with 200m to go to finish well clear of 3rd and close on Hadley over the last 100m)
4 x 400m Relay: 3rd place = All City (53.8 split)

Michael Schnepp-Pfister = All-City in the Pole Vault (3rd place on sprained ankle!)
Discus: 7th (2 big points)

Mitchell Mays = All-City in the 3200m Run (3rd place)
Great lead-off leg on the 4 x 800 relay (2:05.4 split = 3sec personal best)

Nate Clodgo = All-City, Lead-leg in the 4 x 400m Relay (54.5 split)

Also contributing key Team Points for the Eagles were Austin and Blake Puckett who teamed with Mitchell Mays and Jack Morgan to place 4th in the 4 x 800m Relay; Chris Davidson who placed 6th in the 1600m; Sam Vance who placed 6th in the 3200m; and Josh Hornback who placed 8th in the High Jump.
