All Sports Year End Celebration - May 18, 2011

The date for the year end ALL SPORTS CELEBRATION BANQUET is set for Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 7:00pm in the Elementary School gym.  The HCS Athletic Booster Club invites all high school athletes, their parents and high school coaches to this special event celebrating an exciting year in high school athletics.  Athlete of the Year and ‘Doc’ Richards Scholastic Award winners will be announced along with recognition of athletes in multiple other areas.  Save the date now and stay tuned for more details.

IHSAA Approves New Sectional Assignments

The IHSAA Executive Committee has approved the recommendations of the realignment committees responsible for placing member schools into sectional groups in six team sports for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years.  Proposals and tournament formats will be submitted to the IHSAA Executive Committee for approval in June of 2011 for fall sports, October of 2011 for winter sports and February of 2012 for spring sports.

With this development, a revised version of the four-class alignment by enrollment has also been posted to the IHSAA website.  For specific details, visit www.ihsaa.org.

High School Cheerleading Tryout and Clinic

If you are interested in being a High School cheerleader next year, here are some dates you need to know.   This includes current 8th graders who will be freshmen in the fall.

April 14 – Call out meeting for cheerleaders and one parent (6:30pm in the health room)
April 27-28 – Clinic to learn cheers (3:30-5:00pm in the high school gym)
April 30 – Tryouts (10:00am in the high school gym)

Liz Stratman Named to IBCA All-State Team

Fifteen seniors and 15 underclass girls’ basketball players have been chosen first-team All State by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.  Among those selected to the Senior First Team are Liz, Stratman (Heritage Christian), Mallory Ladd (Evansville Memorial), Bria Goss (Ben Davis), Liza Clemons (Fort Wayne-Snider), Hannah Douglas (Pendleton Heights), Lacia Gorman (Fort Wayne-Wayne), Kaleigh Hensley (Wabash), Claire Holba (Chesterton), Kaila Hulls (Bloomington South), Shelbie Justice (Rushville), Courtney Larson (Columbus North), Jama Sharp (Mooresville), Akyah Taylor (Elkhart Memorial), Torrie Thornton (Carmel) and Jessica Valley (McCutcheon).  Congratulations Liz on this outstanding achievement.

Echo Screening Clinic - March 22

In light of the death of a high school basketball player in Michigan, we have received many calls from parents wanting to get their student athlete an echo screen.  The Care Group has added a date for March 22, 2011.  Parents need to call 338-CARE to schedule the $20 test.  A fact/information sheet is available by clicking the following link http://www.hcsconnect.net/pdfs/Athletics/Echo_Screening_Info_Sheet.pdf.  Also listed on the information sheet are additional screening dates offered this summer.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Athletic Department.

Zone Training (High School and Middle School)

The following is the ZONE training schedule for the spring season.  Please adhere to attending the appropriate session for your sport, gender and school.  Training takes place on the Mezzanine level of the high school gym building.  Zone training is free of cost and is open to athletes who have played or plan to play a sport at Heritage.  PE locker rooms will be available to change clothes, however all items must be taken to training and not left in the locker room.  Middle School students need to be picked up promptly after training and will not be allowed to hang out in the gym building.

Mondays            3:30p – 4:30p High School Girls Tennis
                            4:30p – 5:30p High School out of season (coed)

Tuesdays            3:30p – 4:30p Middle School (7th and 8th coed)
                            4:30p – 5:30p Middle School (5th and 6th coed)

Wednesdays      3:30p – 4:30p High School Men’s Lacrosse
                            4:30p – 5:30p High School Baseball and Softball

Tryouts for Middle School spring teams are indicated below.  You must have a current IHSAA sports physical on file in the Athletic Department before you will be allowed to tryout.

Boys Lacrosse - March 7th @ 3:30 on North Field
Girls Lacrosse - March 14th @ 3:30 on Practice Field
Softball - March 14th @ 5:00 on Softball Field
Baseball - March 21st @ 3:30 on Baseball Field
Track - March 21st @ 3:30 on Track
