My Kid is so good! Why aren't the D1's recruiting him or her?!

You would think a kid that was Gatorade Player of the Year in their state would be flooded with offers. Only Boise State, Eastern Washington and Idaho offered scholarships to Kellen Moore, who would go on and finish 4th in the Heisman as a senior at Boise State. This was after he set state records with 787 completions in High School and led his Prosser High teams to a 36-3 record.

Why did he receive such little recruiting and why is he not getting much interest from the NFL now?  Explore the issue in the article by Charlie Adams linked below.  The answers can help you avoid the frustrations that hit so many families in recruiting.

Students Join Forces to SAVE OUR PELLETS!

FORCE 15, a service project oriented school club of students from the class of 2015, along with members of the high school men’s lacrosse team, combined forces this past Saturday and took on a major Athletic/Maintenance Department project here on our own campus to save our pellets!

An urgent need arose when the containers that house the artificial rubber turf pellets (used to maintain the stadium field), began to break down from being exposed to weather.  Transferring the pellets to more permanent containers was estimated to take days to accomplish.  These hard working students completed about 90% of the job on Saturday despite 40 temperatures and strong winds.

This service project coincided with Global Youth Service Day, an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes millions of youth who improve their communities through service learning.  Established in 1988, GYSD is the largest and longest running service event in the world and is celebrated in over 100 countries.

The Athletic Department would like to extend a huge thank you to FORCE 15 and the high school men’s lacrosse team for preserving about $6,000 worth of turf pellets which now can be used to maintain our stadium field (a valuable resource) for years to come.

If you are a current freshman at Heritage and may be interested in future FORCE 15 service projects, please see Grant Costakis or Mr. Dawkins.  Great work men!

Eagle Point Welcomes Visitors

We are excited to launch the opening of Eagle Point!  For those who have not heard, Eagle Point is the newly constructed small building just inside the school’s front gate entrance.  Eagle Point was created to enhance the safety and security of our campus and also allow for a more efficient approach to managing multiple after school activities such as athletic events, fine arts performances and rentals.

On occasion, especially during the spring months, Eagle Point will be staffed by Heritage employees who will greet cars, sell event tickets, provide directional assistance to visitors, and also deter those who may be entering campus just to cruise the lot looking for theft opportunities.  We ask that you please use caution upon entering campus and make allowances when Eagle Point is operational.  As adjustments are being made to staffing, please be patient and courteous to the workers who are out there acting as hosts for the school.  If you have any questions regarding Eagle Point, please feel free to contact Ed Ingle, Director of Safety and Security at ed.ingle@heritagechristian.net.

United to Battle Hunger Food Collection for Gleaners Food Bank

Heritage Christian High School Men’s Lacrosse is challenging Cathedral High School Men’s Lacrosse in a battle:  "United To Battle Hunger".  These two lacrosse teams are capitalizing on an established rivalry as their motivation to compete in a food collection drive for Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana.  Beginning Monday, April 9th, and continuing through Friday, April 13th, each high school will collect non-perishable food items on their campus,  leading up to the men’s lacrosse game Friday evening.   Gleaners Food Bank will be on hand at the game to count each school’s food donation at half-time and declare the winner!  High School faculty, staff, and students with their families are encouraged to participate by bringing non-perishable food pantry items to HCS, placing them in the collection bins located in the Fine Arts Building lobby, the HS Gym lobby, and other locations within the high school.  You can also bring additional food pantry donations to the lacrosse game, which begins at  7:30 PM on the stadium turf.   Please show your support for this event  and come to the men’s lacrosse game Friday evening, April 13th, 7:30 PM to join these two lacrosse teams as they are United To Battle Hunger!
