Students Join Forces to SAVE OUR PELLETS!

FORCE 15, a service project oriented school club of students from the class of 2015, along with members of the high school men’s lacrosse team, combined forces this past Saturday and took on a major Athletic/Maintenance Department project here on our own campus to save our pellets!

An urgent need arose when the containers that house the artificial rubber turf pellets (used to maintain the stadium field), began to break down from being exposed to weather.  Transferring the pellets to more permanent containers was estimated to take days to accomplish.  These hard working students completed about 90% of the job on Saturday despite 40 temperatures and strong winds.

This service project coincided with Global Youth Service Day, an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes millions of youth who improve their communities through service learning.  Established in 1988, GYSD is the largest and longest running service event in the world and is celebrated in over 100 countries.

The Athletic Department would like to extend a huge thank you to FORCE 15 and the high school men’s lacrosse team for preserving about $6,000 worth of turf pellets which now can be used to maintain our stadium field (a valuable resource) for years to come.

If you are a current freshman at Heritage and may be interested in future FORCE 15 service projects, please see Grant Costakis or Mr. Dawkins.  Great work men!
